Baking Contest
The South Texas State Fair Baking Contest, features some of the areas most tasty treats from bakers all over Southeast Texas. Deadline: Entry Form and Fee must be submitted by Monday, March 13, 2023.
SOUTH TEXAS STATE FAIR BAKING CONTEST
RULES AND GUIDELINES
1. Contestants will be grouped into one Division in each Category.
2. Cash Prizes will be awarded in the following three Categories.
3. CATEGORY I – Cookies (Made from Scratch – 12 Items or 1 dozen make an entry). Entries in the Cookies division, shall consist of twelve (12) pieces or one dozen from the batch or recipe displayed on a disposable plate, unless otherwise specified. 1st Place - $100.00, 2nd Place - $50.00, 3rd Place - $25.00.
4. CATEGORY II – Cakes (Made from Scratch-preferred. Commercial mixes plus added ingredients allowed). 1st Place - $100.00, 2nd Place - $50.00, 3rd Place - $25.00.
5. CATEGORY III – Pies ~ Whole (Made from Scratch). 1st Place - $100.00, 2nd Place - $50.00, 3rd Place - $25.00.
6. All entries must be homemade (made from scratch) except cakes.
7. Each entry will consist of the whole recipe.
8. Exhibitors may enter only one (1) entry in each category.
9. Entry fee $5.00 for each entry per category.
10. ALL Entry Forms and Fees must be postmarked or received in the YMBL Offices no later than 5:00 p.m. March 13, 2023. Entries can either be delivered in person or mailed to:

11. All Participants must comply with the YMBL-South Texas State Fair General Rules and Regulations as contained in the online Fair Rules.
DAY OF CONTEST - SUNDAY, MARCH 26TH
- Contestants are to arrive at the Exhibit Hall between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
- All baked products must be wrapped in transparent wrap and displayed on/in disposable containers with (1) copy of the recipe along with baker’s name and address typed or neatly written on a 3 x 5 index card taped to entry.
- Each product must have an entry tag number which will be provided during registration/arrival time.
- Judging will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. with awards being presented at 4:30 p.m.
- Contestants will not be allowed in the judging area until the judging is completed.
- Entries will be judged on taste, texture, appearance, and quality of the item entered in the show.
The YMBL will not be responsible for dishes and/or containers after presentation of awards.
Unsportsmanlike conduct, including, but not limited to inappropriate conversation or comments on any social network, of any contestants, parents and/or family members will not be tolerated. Any unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification from competition and/or withdrawal of titles.
All Participants are required to pick up their entries after judging and award presentation prior to Exhibit Hall closure on the day of the contest or all items will be discarded by the YMBL.
