HAROLD ENGSTROM MEMORIAL SPECIAL KIDS DAY AT THE RODEO
,
The YMBL is hosting it's annual Harold Engstrom Memorial Special Kids Day at the Rodeo on Wednesday, March 26. This event first started 33 years ago and the YMBL Rodeo Committee members had no idea how important the event would become in the community. That first year 1,000 physically and mentally challenged and disabled youngsters attended the event.
This year approximately 1,700 youngsters from 25 school districts representing some 100 schools are expected to attend the Kids Day Rodeo along with some 200 volunteers from the YMBL and from other community organizations.
The event was designed to offer a memorable and fun outing for these young people who so often do not get an opportunity to leave the confines of their homes and schools to see and participate in exciting and educational activities such as a real western rodeo. Hotdog lunches and drinks will be served to every one of the youngsters and volunteers that day courtesy of the YMBL and event sponsor, The Provost Umphrey Law Firm.
This project has done much to draw the community together and has given the Rodeo an astronomical boost in our city and area. These children will always be rodeo fans and money cannot buy the goodwill that our organization has received from this worthwhile program.
Everyone connected with the production of this Rodeo performance, except for the cowboy entrants, contribute their time, talents and expertise to the Kids Day program, and we appreciate everything they do for these youngsters.
