A History of Competition

Began in 1952 by the Young Men’s Business League, this tournament has grown over the
years to become one of the premier high school basketball events in Southeast Texas.
The home of the South Texas Shootout has been the campus of
Lamar University. The Montagne Center, on the eastern edge of the campus, is a “Big Time” basketball facility and has proven to be an outstanding showcase for high school basketball talent. Where else could most student athletes have the opportunity to play in such a forum?
In the past, the South Texas Shootout has played host to many of the top programs. Numerous student athletes have competed here before going on to highly successful college as well as professional careers. With the YMBL continuing to work for the youth of our area, this tournament will continue to grow as a
source of competition, experience, and excellence.
