The South Texas State Fair has arrived, which means you're free to eat as much meat on a stick and as many deep-fried treats as you've got cash for.
The 68th annual fair's opening ceremonies are today at 5:30 p.m., and anyone who attends the ceremonies gets in the gate free. Once you're inside, most entertainment is free except for rides and food.
Favorite foods like pork-a-bobs, cotton candy and funnel cakes return this year, as well as a few new soon-to-be favorites, fair chairman Henry Gaus said.
Deep fried garlic mashed potatoes and spaghetti ice cream - an ice cream sundae made with vanilla ice cream noodles, strawberry topping tomato sauce and meatball truffles - will make their first appearance this year.
